Films On The Big Screen Or The Small Screen?
I love going out to the cinema; from the big seats, dark room, massive screen to the popcorn and other members of the audience sharing in the experience. It is a great night out.
But with staying in being the new going out, how do we combat this? Films on TV are notorious for being a bit dull; by the time the films are on the small screen, they have been out for public release for some time (albeit at the cinema or on dvd, etc). This means everyone tends to know what they are about already – so where is the suspense, the drama, the unknown?
The advantage of films on TV is that they tend to be a comfort to us; the traditional showing of a Bond film at Easter, The Snowman being on over Christmas, that kind of thing. The timeless classics.
How many of the films going through the cinema in this day and age will still be as popular in 10 years time?

TV is not bad for you!
I spent the weekend at my Mum’s, and was amazed at the amount of TV she watches these days. Once upon a time, she would go nuts at me and my siblings for organising our time around our favorite programs, but now this is what she does! Oh how the tables have turned!
The usual arguement we had from Mum was that “it will rot your brain”, etc etc. But apparently, that’s not true anymore (thanks for the info Mum!), and TV is actually very educational. I asked if this was the case when she was watching her soaps, and she said that although they weren’t directly educational, they helped her relax and was therefore good for her.
Well, I can’t disagree there Mum!

Watch Television Programs Online
With the technology advancing the internet allows more and more of us to watch television programs online. Companies such as Yahoo have recently announced partnerships with television manufactures as they foresee a trend from the computer to the TV screen. One of the directors quoted that are consumers watch more TV they are demanding Internet connectivity to further the viewing experience. Online programs are known as widgets. Web Capable televisions would be embedded which in turn would allow more video on demand, social networks, games and online shopping.

Free To Air TV Channels
The content of what you see on television is normally financed by the government, advertising, licensing (in the UK, this is the TV license) or subscription such as BT vision, Sky or Cable. To ensure that only the individuals that have paid receive the channels TV channels are usually encrypted and they receive a decryption code to see that signal. Those channels which are free are not encrypted and known as Free to air. The use of Televisions to advertise to the public is a great way of creating publicity and for producers to fund their programming, and networks and stations sell blocks of broadcast time for advertisements.

Top gear Review
Many people say you either love him or hate him and i agree but i am not talking about the STIG here nor James May but Jeremy Clarkson. Over the past few weeks he has been everywhere on the radio, TV with Jonathon Ross, papers regarding incidents at work. I have to admit he can be very arrogant but i think this is just how he is personally i love the show and way Clarkson presents at times it puts me in hysterics and hope that the show continues for many years to come and that Clarkson heads the show.

England football match only watchable live online (Part 2)
Following on from my post about the England vs Ukraine internet-only game, we will now look at the second problem with this situation; the price.
It turns out that the internet isn’t always the cheapest place to get things, especially watch television, after all. The price was set at £4.99, not a bank-busting amount but still a pretty penny. Even this price had a catch though; you had to pay up front. If you waited until the day, you had to pay £9.99, so immediately doubling the price, all for not ‘pre-ordering’ a virtual ticket to the game.
The big fuss was caused when Setanta went bust and no one else wanted to buy the rights to the game, because England had already qualified for the World Cup by this point anyway. This resulted in Perform, who are a solely internet-based sports broadcaster, obtaining the rights.

England football match only watchable live online (Part 1)
The recent football match between England and Ukraine was only watchable by those in the UK by the use of online streaming. There were two significant drawbacks to this show of technological strength. I’ll split them into two easy to follow posts for you:
First of all, the comfort debate. It’s all well and good being able to get a good quality video stream broadcast over the internet straight to our computers, but most of us have an office or laptop set up at a table, whioch just doesn’t offer quite the same experience as wtaching on our own televisions. Although I’m sure some people have got a PC connected to their television or at least the ability to stream to it, especially with so many media centre devices available now (including, but not limited to, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games consoles).

Philips brings the cinema to your home
We’ve all heard of home cinema set ups, if we have the money we get a whopping HD TV, combine it with some extremely high wattage of surround sound gear and sit back while our eyes and ears melt from the special FX explosions. Philips have decided that just having a 16:9 widescreen TV isn’t good enough anymore though, they want to bring in panoramic, cinema-esque, 21:9 super-widescreen TVs.
APhilips 21:9 Cinema LCD that has been shown already, has a screen that measures in at 56 inches and is full HD (1080p) and comes combined with Philips’ Ambilight Spectra technology, adding to the lighting of the cinema feel.
If you have a few grand to spare and you love watching films in all their glory, this might just be the television for you.
